SEND Re-Visit: A Letter from the Director of Children's Services
A letter from the Director of Children's Services with an update following the recent visit to the borough by Ofsted and the CQC.
Ofsted & CQC re-visited the SEND Local Area between the 10 and 12 October 2022.
They were looking at five areas which they said needed improvement when they inspected SEND in 2019.
The areas were:
- The quality and timeliness of EHCPs
- How we commission SEND services (mainly health services) and children and families experience
- How we work with parents and carers to improve our services
- Preparing for Adulthood
- How Senior Leaders in the Council, Health and Education work together to provide services
The inspectors heard from parents and carers, children and young people and looked at the work we have done together to make improvements over the past 3 years. They used this evidence to judge whether we have made enough progress in the five areas that they said needed improvement.
The inspectors have written their feedback from this visit in the form of a letter and on the SEND Local Offer.
We welcome the feedback that we have received acknowledging the progress we have made, however, we recognise that there is more to do to improve the experiences of families.
