Overview

The Twisting Ducks Theatre Company have a range of performing arts academies that provide opportunities to:

  • develop your acting and directing skills by produce your own plays and perform live at theatres
  • develop your music skills, write your own songs, and perform live as part of our band, The Twist
  • learn DJ'ing skills and DJ live at our Newcastte FRESH club night

They have opportunities happening weekly across the borough and Newcastle:

  • Band Academy (Newcastle) - Tuesdays at 10am till 3.30pm
  • Customs House Academy (South Shields) - Tuesdays at 10am till 3.30pm
  • Theatre Royal Academy (Newcastle) - Wednesdays at 10am till 3.30pm
  • DJ Academy (Newcastle) - Thursdays at 3.25pm till 5.25pm
  • Morpeth Academy (Northumberland) - Fridays at 10am till 3.30pm
  • Theatre Royal Academy (Newcastle) - Saturdays at 10am till 3.30pm

Support available

The academies provide inclusive opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to come together and:

  • develop their skills and talent
  • build confidence and independence
  • increase their social connections

They use a range of accessible approaches, tailored to each individual's needs, to make sure everyone can take part and achieve their goals.

Who can access the service

For people with learning disabilities and autistic people aged 16 and over. 

How to access the service

The academies are open to both referrals and self referrals.
