Overview

A confidential, friendly service for children and young people, including those with disabilities, who have problems with their bladder and bowel.

They work closely with parents / carers to complete 3 day bladder and 2 week bowel charts. 

This information is used to develop a care / treatment plan which is reviewed every 3 to 4 months.


Support available

 The service supports children and young people with:

  • constipation
  • soiling
  • frequent need to use the toilet during the day (more than seven times)
  • an urgent need to use the toilet
  • daytime and night time wetting
  • delay in developing toileting skills

The service also supports families:

  • to assist their child / young person with individual toilet programmes
  • by providing advice about appropriate toileting products, aids, and equipment
  • by referring to other services if needed 

Specialist assessments are available.

The service also manages continence products service and prescribe specialist products that are unavailable through the 0 - 19 service.  


Who can access the service

Children and young people aged 0 to 19 years, who have already worked with a health visitor or school nurse.

A Level 1 assessment must be completed by a health professional who has worked with families for at least 12 weeks. 


How to access the service

You can self refer by telephone, or be referred by a health professional.

Advice will be offered, and a reassessment is recommended after 6 months.

The child or young person must be re-assessed every year.
