Overview

PANS (paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome) and PANDAS (paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndrome associated with strep) are neuropsychiatric conditions that are poorly recognised, diagnosed and supported both medically and in schools.  


Support available

The service offers resources for parents including:

  • diagnostic criteria
  • details of local support groups

They also offer resources for medical professionals, teachers and schools including teacher training packages.

The service provides support via their Facebook group PANS PANDAS UK for:

  • parents / caregivers 
  • young people aged 12 to 17 years old with the condition
  • adults

By joining the Facebook group PANS PANDAS UK, you can get further support for free as and when needed.

Advocacy and support is also available from the charity.


Who can access the service

Children aged 4 to 19 who are showing symptoms associated with the condition and / or diagnosed with the conditions.  

Affected children can be in mainstream, alternative, specialist provision or electively home educated. 

All of South Tyneside is covered by this service.


How to access the service

You can access the service through:

  • education provider (consent must be given)
  • SEND specialists
  • educational psychologists
