Overview

South Tyneside's sexual health service offers advice and support about:

  • sexual health
  • contraception
  • pregnancy 

The service includes testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Home testing kits are also available

All services are completely confidential. 


Support available

 

The service offers information and advice on how to look after your Sexual Health. 

Health professionals are available to explore contraception options with young adults, including emergency contraception. There is also a free condom scheme for young people aged 16 and over.

There is a Pregnancy Options Advisor available to girls who need to discuss pregnancy options including, midwifery or termination.

Other services include:

  • Vaccinations related to Sexual Health Services
  • Help for people who have been sexually assaulted
  • Psychosexual Counselling
  • Referral to a specialist
  • Cervical Screening

There are appropriate arrangements are in place so that patients with additional needs can access sexual health services - for example, providing access to interpreters. There are also clinic facilities for people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.

Needs are assessed on an individual basis, the same as any young person, and care is managed accordingly. Mental capacity assessments and Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCP) may be used to inform the young person's care.The young person, their parent or advocate may contact the main clinic and the young person would be managed through the normal clinic process.

Where there are vulnerabilities regarding special educational needs or safeguarding concerns, outreach may be offered.

Anyone over the age of 16.
