Overview

South Tyneside's sexual health service offers advice and support about:

  • sexual health
  • contraception
  • pregnancy 

The service includes testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Home testing kits are also available. 

All services are completely confidential. 


Support available

The service offers information and advice on how to look after your sexual health.   

Health professionals are available to discuss contraception options with young adults, including emergency contraception.

There is a free condom scheme for young people aged 16 and over.

There is a Pregnancy Options Advisor available to girls who need to discuss pregnancy options including, midwifery or termination.  

Other services include: 

  • Hepatitis B vaccination 
  • Help for people who have been sexually assaulted 
  • Psychosexual counselling 
  • Referral to a specialist 

Support for people with additional needs

There are appropriate arrangements are in place so patients with additional needs can access sexual health services.

There are clinic facilities for people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.  

Needs are assessed on an individual basis.

Where there are vulnerabilities around special educational needs or safeguarding concerns, outreach may be offered through schools.

Anyone over the age of 14.
